The cardiovascular system is an organ system that permits blood and lymph circulation to transport nutrients such as amino acids and electrolytes, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones to and from cells in the body to nourish it and help fight diseases, stabilize body temperature and pH, and maintain homeostasis. Some common cardiovascular diseases are coronary artery disease, stroke, hypertension, heart failure, atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis among others.
There are many risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease which include age, gender, tobacco use, alcohol use, high cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity and unhealthy diets.
